Equipment That Passes LiveJasmin's Quality Check
Light first, camera second, sound third. Here's what to buy and how to set it up.
The three things LiveJasmin grades
Picture (1080p, steady, well exposed), light (front and side, nothing bright behind you) and the room (clean, uncluttered, not a kitchen or living room). Sound matters too. Spend in that order.
Cameras from LiveJasmin's own list
LiveJasmin's recommended-camera list includes the webcams below. We've grouped them by what they're good at; prices move often, so the ranges are rough US retail guides, not quotes.
| Camera | Why models pick it | Rough price range |
|---|---|---|
| Logitech C930e | Reliable 1080p business webcam, wide field of view | Lower |
| Logitech Brio 500 | 1080p with better low-light handling and a privacy shutter | Lower to mid |
| Logitech StreamCam | 1080p at 60 fps, built for streaming, USB-C | Mid |
| OBSBOT Tiny 4K | 4K sensor on a motorised gimbal that can follow you | Higher |
| Insta360 Link | 4K with tracking and strong image processing | Higher |
Three kits
Starter
C930e or Brio 500; two small LED panels or one ring light plus a desk lamp with a soft shade; an Ethernet cable (and a USB-to-Ethernet adapter for laptops); a plain throw or curtain to tidy the background.
Middle
StreamCam or Brio 500; a key light with a softbox at 45 degrees and a smaller fill light on the other side; a USB microphone; a simple backdrop or a styled corner with one plant and one lamp.
Polished
OBSBOT Tiny 4K or Insta360 Link; two softboxes plus a soft back or hair light; a quality USB or XLR microphone; blackout curtains so daylight never changes your picture mid-session.
Buy in that order: light first, then the camera, then sound, then decoration. A cheap 1080p webcam under good light beats an expensive one in a dark room.
Lighting that passes
- Kill the backlight. Turn your back to the wall, not the window. A bright window behind you is the most common reason a picture looks muddy.
- Key light at 45 degrees. Slightly above eye level, angled down. Soft light (softbox or diffused panel) flatters skin and hides texture far better than a bare bulb.
- Fill from the other side. Dimmer than the key, so your face still has shape.
- Match colour temperature. Don't mix warm bulbs with daylight panels. Set everything to the same white.
- No beauty filters. LiveJasmin bans filters and watermarks on the stream. Good light does what a filter pretends to.
Internet: the part nobody sees until it fails
Plug in with a cable. Wi-Fi drops are the fastest way to lose a paid private session. Test your upload speed at the time of day you plan to stream, because home connections slow down in the evening. If you can't reach 6 Mbps upload, ask your provider about a higher upload tier before buying a better camera, since a 4K camera can't help a weak connection.
The room
- One clean, intentional background. A bed with neat bedding, a styled corner or a plain backdrop all work.
- Nothing that reveals your address, school or workplace, or the face of anyone else: mail, uniforms, framed photos, a view of a recognisable street.
- Camera at or just above eye level. Stack books under a laptop if you must.
- A door you can lock and a household that knows not to walk in.

Questions people ask
What camera does LiveJasmin recommend?
LiveJasmin's recommended list includes the Logitech C930e, Brio 500 and StreamCam, the OBSBOT Tiny 4K and the Insta360 Link. 1080p at 30 fps is the recommended minimum.
Do I need a ring light to cam on LiveJasmin?
Not specifically, but you need soft front and side light with nothing bright behind you. A ring light, LED panels or softboxes can all do that.
Can I use Wi-Fi to stream on LiveJasmin?
LiveJasmin recommends a wired Ethernet connection. Wi-Fi can work but is more likely to drop or vary in quality.
